"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."
Maya Angelou

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
Michael Jordan

INTENT

At Atlantic Academy our goal is to encourage participation in PE in all of our students.

We aim to provide a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all students to succeed and excel in competitive sport, dance and other physically-demanding activities. Opportunities to compete in sport builds character and helps to embed values such as fairness and respect. Alongside this we also strive to ensure that students experience and master different roles in sport, such as coaching and leading.

Our intent is to develop students in order that they:

  • Appreciate the significance of exercising for a lifetime.
  • Learn the fundamental motor skills that will allow them to develop the physical capability for sports and general wellbeing
  • Increase their fitness levels during PE including muscular and cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility.
  • To be creative, cooperative and competitive and to work as part of a team as well as an individual
  • Manage anxiety, tension and stress through the use of exercise
  • Develop leadership skills, negotiation and communication skills
  • Be confident in their own physical capabilities and inspire them to lead an active and healthy life
  • To develop the concept of fair play, honest competition, good sportsmanship and how to handle both success and defeat.
