At Atlantic Academy, our aim is to stimulate students’ imagination and creativity, to develop their knowledge and understanding of Drama techniques and skills and to provide a safe environment to explore sensitive issues, difficult emotions and gain an understanding of human behaviour and situations. Our intent is to develop students to:
- To provide a rigorous and varied curriculum that teaches skills and knowledge of theatre
- Develop an enthusiasm and appreciation for Drama and encourage their capacity to enjoy performances within society
- To provide numerous opportunities to create, develop and evaluate
- Stimulate the imagination and creativity of all students through devising and performing
- Evaluate performances and develop critical analysis skills
- Give students opportunities to explore, discuss and deal with difficult issues and to express their emotions in a supportive environment
- Promote communication skills, teamwork, negotiation and leadership skills
- Develop a greater understanding of human behaviour and empathy
- Provide opportunities to develop public speaking
- Be able to articulate and communicate ideas, opinions, and feelings about their own work and that of others
Impact
The drama curriculum will challenge and support students to achieve strong outcomes at Key Stage 4, whilst building a love for theatre and its power of transformation. Drama is intrinsic in building the confidence and character of students in ways that manifest itself not only in the drama classroom but in life itself.
